What is a Veneer?
A veneer is an extremely thin tooth-coloured shell that bonds to the surface of the tooth to improve appearance and give you a better smile. They can be made from porcelain or resin-composite materials.
They are popular for people with:
- Chipped or crooked teeth.
- Teeth that have been stained or lost their colour.
- Gappy or uneven teeth.
Composite veneers
A composite veneer is a type of tooth covering, made using composite resin (hence the name), that is placed on the teeth to improve the overall appearance. It is a minimally invasive technique that could be life changing for your smile. We commonly whiten the teeth before placement of the composite.
Composite veneers are ideal for fixing small chips or cracks in the teeth, as you do not need to cover the entire tooth, like porcelain veneers.
Porcelain veneer
A porcelain veneer is a ‘shaped’ cover, made from porcelain, that fits over the front surface of the teeth. They are typically a more permanent solution than composite veneers but the treatment process is longer. Impressions of teeth are made, which are sent to a lab to make the veneers.
Porcelain veneers are commonly used to close gaps between teeth, improve the appearance of crooked teeth and provide coverage for teeth that aren’t the desired colour.
