Dr Joseph Bell is a Specialist Orthodontist and provides comprehensive orthodontics including fixed appliances and clear aligner treatment such as Invisalign at Coulthard Sullivan Dental Practice. He completed his specialist orthodontic training in Carlisle and Newcastle, gaining the Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Alongside his clinical training, Dr Bell completed a Masters in Clinical Research at the University of Newcastle, graduating with Distinction.
In addition to his work at Coulthard Sullivan Dental Practice, Dr Bell also works at Manchester Dental and Children’s Hospital, where he is undertaking further training towards becoming a Consultant in Orthodontics and treats complex cases, including patients requiring orthognathic surgery and those with cleft lip and palate.
Dr Bell graduated in Dentistry from the University of Sheffield in 2018. Early in his career, he was awarded the Royal College of Surgeons Faculty of General Dental Practitioners’ Outstanding Contribution to Foundation Training Award for his commitment to patient care. He went on to gain experience across a wide range of hospital specialties—including Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Special Care Dentistry, Paediatric Dentistry, Restorative Dentistry, and Orthodontics—before pursuing specialist training.
He has published in the British Dental Journal and has presented his clinical work nationally and internationally, including at the Dentistry Show, the British Orthodontic Conference, the European Orthodontic Conference, and the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Craniofacial Society of Great Britain and Ireland. Dr Bell is actively involved in teaching and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education.
Dr Bell has received several prestigious awards, including the Nigel Carter Case Prize for the two best treated orthodontic cases among his training cohort, as well as the Geoffrey Fletcher Scholarship and the TC White Travel Grant supporting his elective visit to the Orthodontic Department at Hong Kong University.
Outside of clinical practice, Joe has volunteered overseas with the dental charity Dentaid in Malawi and with Cambodia World Family, providing essential dental care in remote and underserved communities. In his spare time, he enjoys playing football and cricket, keeping active at the gym, and exploring new cultures through travel.
